ícone An Incomparable Man

On February 22, 1862, in Paris, the French historian Ernest Renan had the opportunity to speak about Jesus, introducing Him as an Incomparable Man.

A Man without equal, who spent His childhood in a small provincial town, politically dominated by the Roman power.

From then on, the obscure city became famous and got known throughout the world.

Ernest Renan wrote:

All the armies that have ever paraded through this world; all the fleets that have ever sailed the seas; all the parliaments that have ever met; all the monarchs who have ever reigned; all together they have not influenced the life of humanity on this planet as powerfully as this immortal character did.

He is known as Jesus, the son of Joseph and Mary. He worked as a carpenter until He was about thirty years old. He shaped wood, turning it into tools for other men, demonstrating, from an early age, that He was born to serve.

For almost three years He spread the truth, using simple words and images perfectly familiar to the people who listened to Him.

He spoke of sheep and the fold, identifying Himself as the Good Shepherd, the one who knows His sheep and gets happy with the return of those who had momentarily disband from the flock.

He revealed divine descent to all men, presenting the Creator as the Father of us all. A Father who is love, who loves all beings, and who distributes His blessings in all corners of Earth.

He has never written a book, and yet His sayings and deeds, recorded by special historian of His time, Mathew, Mark, Luke and John, have crossed the ages and centuries, reaching Humanity of the present days.

A poet, He recited verses whose beauty has never been surpassed. And He gave men the beatitudes.

Leaving His own home, He conquered the world with His example and made the homes of His friends and supporters His own home, honoring them with His presence.

He never attended a University and, yet, no one spoke with as much wisdom as He did.

He knew the science of men and the science of the Spirit. For that reason, He pointed out the ultimate purpose of all beings: the conquest of God´s Kingdom, which is found in the intimacy of each one of us.

He has never traveled more than three hundred kilometers beyond the borders of the place where he lived. Still, He spread the seeds of the Good News, along the coast of the Jordan and Tiberias, reaching valleys and mountains, going beyond borders.

He died nailed to a cross. A cross that was a synonymous of degradation and that He, with His death, became a symbol of extreme renunciation, for He offered His own life as a holocaust, for loving the truths He taught.

More than twenty centuries have passed and even today He continues to be the central figure of human culture.

He was so great that He did not fit into History. He became the divider of time, which men began to count as before and after His birth.

Master and Lord, He taught that the greatest in the kingdom of heaven is the one who serves his brothers the most. And that the greatest glory is to Love God above all things and your neighbor as yourself.
