ícone The blessed coin

Money does not bring happiness! The phrase is often on people's lips and is repeated countless times.

Certainly, money in itself does not bring happiness, just as beauty, power, and many other worldly possessions do not constitute happiness.

Happiness is connected to life's purposes, to what we choose for ourselves in terms of personal fulfillment. However, in no way is money dispensable.

Its absence almost always becomes a factor of imbalance and misery, tormenting multitudes.

Thus, let us think a little more before blindly repeating what so many say.

Money, in itself, is neither good nor bad. Its value derives from the way we use it.

Let us consider how blessed is the coin that buys the medicine that saves lives.

Blessed is the money that builds hospitals, sustains humanitarian campaigns, and promotes the education of children and young people.

Blessed is the coin that multiplies family happiness through a fair salary for the worker.

Blessed is the money that buys milk and nourishes the newborn.

It is money that fuels research and stimulates human progress. It is money that builds bridges and connects one end to another. It is money that finances culture and the arts.

It is money that sponsors the care of animals and the protection of nature.

Money does not buy heaven, but it can generate goodwill on Earth when used for good purposes.

Who can live on Earth without shelter to protect them from the elements, a roof to guard against the rain and the scorching sun?

Who can live without food to nourish the body? Who can heal without access to surgery, medical treatment, or necessary medication?

Let us not forget that Jesus blessed the mite donated by the widow in the temple's public treasury.

He also praised the gesture of friendship from Mary of Bethany when she poured the precious nard perfume on His hair, honoring Him.

So much so that He affirmed that wherever His Gospel was preached, that gesture would also be remembered.

Nard perfume, purchased with money and saved for a special occasion.

Money also serves this purpose: to tell dear friends that we love them deeply and wish to honor them with our presence and our gift.

Who does not appreciate the kindness of a flower, a card, or a small token given in the name of tenderness?

Those who renounce everything, claiming to want nothing from the world, in reality, become a burden to society, which must provide for their survival.

Let us reflect on this: neither excess nor deficiency. Neither greed that ties us to miserliness nor contempt for money, which can free the sick from pain, the hungry from their suffering, and the illiterate from ignorance.

What matters is not having much or little. What matters is knowing how to give it the right purpose.

Let us not curse money, for it is a docile instrument in our hands.

Let us make it serve with us, under the inspiration of Christ, and transform our financial resources into valuable talents on our journey, cooperating in the dissemination of good in the world.
