I wanted to be more like the sunbeam, that first beam of a morning awaited by someone who cried the long night, believing it would never end.
I wanted to be more like the late afternoon sunbeam, which surprises the dense cloud, and sticks out over the almost dark city, saying: "I am still here..."
I wanted to be more like the sunbeam surrounding the boy in the park, making him discover the shapes of his own shadow on the green grass, as if it were another being, outside of him...
I wanted to be more like the first ray of the sun after an intense storm: humble, discreet, effective and useful.
I wanted to be more like the sunbeam that, after being for some time, still remains, even after having been gone, in the form of heat.
I wanted to be more like the ray of sun that passes between the buildings of the metropolis, daring, seeking cracks, reflections, to finally reach the ordinary citizen on the street, no distinction whatsoever.
I wanted to be more sun and less shade.
More lightning and less word.

Is there no desire within us to do more, to be more?
Do we sometimes miss a greater meaning in our lives?
We observe people who engage in causes, who dedicate themselves to the next, who are icons of a particular era and we think: I wanted to be a little more like that.
It is a force that screams within us asking for something. It is our own loving nature telling us what it came from...
What do we lack, then?
What do we lack to be less speech and more action? Less opinion and more embrace? Less criticism and more help?
We are flooded with theory. Many have already shown us the paths of ascension, as experienced climbers who are ahead and subject themselves to return and show the techniques and possible trails to climb safely.
They have shown what to do, they showed how and when.
What do we lack, then?
We lack the impulse, the step, the boldness, the well-directed will.
Small initiatives, small projects, but with continuity, persistence and seriousness.
They are micronuclei of fraternity, of civilization, that change an entire nation and, in turn, the world.
Let us not remain frozen in the posture of mere desire. It is necessary to activate the will.
The will is a faculty of the soul, an instrument that sets our inner powers in motion and guides them towards a lofty ideal.
Through it we change our nature, overcome all obstacles, dominate the matter, disease and death.
It is what makes us do great things.
Let us carry out, contribute, help.
Let us start something new or engage in something we believe in. There is no more time to remain indifferent. The world is ours. Let us embrace it.
