ícone A new Brazil

A young Brazilian woman, who lives in Japan, reported the fact to a friend: Yesterday, a man went to my house and left a gallon of water in front of my door.

He informed that, during the night, there would be a survey in the pipeline  and the water logging would be turned off for a few hours. A team, along with him, was passing in every house to warn, leaving a gallon and apologizing for any inconvenience.

I said they did not need to leave the water. After all, at the time that there was going to be the shutdown, I would be asleep.

But, the man replied: “You pay your bills every month and we have an obligation of not leaving you without water for not even a minute. If you need more, you can ask for.”

And he continued, distributing gallons of water in the other houses. During the night, the group worked on the streets, in silence.

The next day, they returned, from house to house, only to thank.

The fact seems almost unbelievable. A gallon of water left from door to door in case the residents have any possible needs at two or three o'clock  in the morning.

It is not charity, it is not a favor. It is the right of the citizen that pays taxes.

A gallon of water at the door. A customer service that works easily. A police officer on every corner.

Invoice delivered in all business transactions. Trash cans everywhere. Street well signposted. Abundant public transportation, cheap and that meets the schedule. Hospitals with vacancies day and night. Efficient schools. Confidence rather than bureaucracy.

If we all agree that it all would be great in our country, why does it not happen? Who sticks it?

Who jams it is us, seduced by exclusive and not collective advantages.

We cannot blame the government because, in truth, we live in a democracy, where the rulers are elected by popular vote.

It is our fault. We are preventing the country to moralize and advance. We choose bad our representatives.

We act badly, as citizens, always asking ourselves how we can earn anything with this or that situation.

It is important that each one of us begin our own moralization, start acting ethically, think more on common good and less on ourselves.

So, soon, the violence will be banned from our schools, soccer fields,  society, in general.

And we will have a fairer society. Authorities taking care of the common good. Citizens worrying about each other.

Focus on teaching our children the respect for the next, from the janitor to the teacher, from the clerk to the magistrate, from the police officer to the highest authority in the country.

Be concerned citizens, caring for the cleanliness of the streets, parks and gardens, saving water and energy, focus on the systematic separation of garbage, collaborating with the recycling.

Pay our taxes but, above all, vote, consciously, not because someone has indicated the candidate, or because he greeted us, during the campaign, or promised any personal advantage.

Yes, our Brazil can become the giant of morality, of decency, of manhood. True example of country illuminated by the sun of the new world, by the light of the Gospel of Jesus.

Think about it and start acting. Brazil expects each one doing your duty.
