What is the worst pain ever?
Have you ever thought about it?
A young man left a note to his family, just before committing suicide, expressing on the paper what he was feeling.
On the note, he says that the worst pain is not to die, but to be ignored.
It is to lose someone who used to care for us but does not care anymore. It is to be left aside by someone that gave us so much support, being aware that this is the result of our own negligence.
The worst pain is not to die, but to be forgotten. It is to have no recognition after an achievement.
It is not having a friend call just to say “hello”. It is to see the expression of indifference in somebody’s face when we open our heart.
It is painful to see the ones that used to be our friends, but were far too busy to comfort us or to try to cheer us up when we needed it.
It is when it seems like we are alone in our moments of sadness. We are afflicted by many pains, but they seem lighter when we have someone who gives us attention.
This young man must have had his reasons to write these things; however, he did not think about the people that surrounded him.
If he could feel the pain of a mother watching the body of her beloved son with no signs of life…
If he could experience the suffering of a father who tries in vain to know what reasons his son had to have taken such a drastic attitude…
If he could feel the despair of a brother who seeks for an answer from the rigid lips from the human being with whom he shared his childhood…
If he could stand, only if just for a few minutes, the pain of a true friend who contemplates the speechless lips in a coffin, he would surely change his concept of the worst pain.
If you think you are going through the worst moments a person can bare, consider the following situations:
A mother who cries over the body of her darling son who was killed by a bomb, in the name of a cold and cruel war.
A small child bending over the body of his or her mother who was killed by a grenade.
A war orphan who is obligated to use the same weapons that murdered his or her parents…
A father who watches his whole family being killed, with tied up hands.
So, think a little bit about these and other pains...
Think a little bit about the many hearts who suffer many bitter pains than yours.
Even though, if you still believe your pain is worse, remember that mother who watched her innocent Son being crucified, unable to intervene.
Remember also the one who bore the pain of the cross of martyrdom but did not lose the confidence in His father, who knows what is best.
If even then you still think you are the one who really suffers, consider that selfishness is maybe impairing your vision.
Think about it!
It is very difficult to find out what the worst pain is.
However, the biggest deception is much easier to deduce.
It is the deception of finding out that even if you kill yourself; your problems will not be over.
They leave the body, but they surely do not leave life, and, less probable still, solve your problems.
Therefore, it does not matter how difficult a situation is, it is never worth looking for this false door called suicide.
It is important to always remember that it does not matter how long and dark the evening is, the sun always shines again.
Also, even if we believe we are lonely, we should always remember we have a dedicated and faithful friend that will never abandon us: The Sweet Rabi of Galilee.
Think about it!
