Earning a living is not enough anymore; the work has to allow us to live it as well.
The phrase belongs to the one who is considered the father of modern management - Peter Drucker - and it reveals a valuable truth for us today.
Drucker followed an unprecedented period in the world, related to the business area.
Born in 1909, he disincarnated in 2005, after a life filled with achievements and abundant material produced in the corporative field.
His quotes in regards to the function of work, the profession, in our existence, must be profoundly analyzed, as it brings immediate consequences throughout life, once put into practice.
The main purpose of our daily work is to make us an important part in society, as well as provide us with the bread and butter.
Drucker's reflection, invites us to think about: What does it matter to earn a living, having a means of financial support, riches, if I am unable to "enjoy" all of this for my own benefit?
Our work, our professions have to allow us to live life. It cannot enslave us in a web of commitments, responsibilities, making it impossible for us to enjoy the air of a beautiful morning...
If we become, what is known today as workaholics, we lose focus on what truly matters during our reincarnation, not knowing what is the means or the end.
Yes, profession, work, all of these are means. Means of subsistence; means of intellectual growth, of being useful.
When we notice that the business world is driving us crazy, it is time to stop and rethink things.
As incarnated Spirits, we have an obligation with the material improvement of our planet, while being committed to our own improvement, becoming good people, and good citizens.
That way, we cannot allow that these activities take such a toll, where it drains all of our energies, to the extent, where, once arriving at our home, at the end of the day, we do not wish to carry on a conversation, to play with our children, or even smile.
Therefore, we should give everything its due value and worth. Our business world cannot be more important than family life, nor should it be more important than our physical and Spiritual health.
If you notice that your life is going to this direction, stop, think, reflect and redirect everything, while you can.

From the Book of Ecclesiastes (Old Testament) we have the following:
Better is a handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.
Think about this. Is it really worth so much affliction, despair, hours of tension, for purely material means?
We cannot stop working, this is true, but we might allow our work to be lighter, less strenuous, while permitting us to live life in abundance.
Think about it.
