An old Sioux Indian legend says that once, Angry Bull, the most honored and brave of all young warriors from a tribe, and Blue Cloud, the chieftain's daughter, who was also one of the most beautiful woman of that tribe, arrived at the tent of their old shaman and said:
We love each other and will get married. We love each other so much that we would like a counsel, maybe some witchcraft done, or just a talisman. Something that will guarantee we will stay together forever. That will assure us we will be next to each other until death.
Looking at the very young couple who was so much in love and in search of a helpful word, the old wise man said: There is only one thing that could be done, but it is a very difficult and sacrificing task.
You, Blue Cloud, you must climb the mount that lays behind this village, and with your bare hands, using only a net to help, you must catch the most vigorous hawk of that mount, and bring it back here alive, until the third day after the full moon.
And you, Angry Bull, you must climb the mountain of the throne, where you will find the most angry of all eagles. With only your bare hands and a net, you must bring it here alive.
The young couple hugged each other and left to fulfill their given tasks. On the established day, the two lovers waited for the shaman in front of his tent, carrying both birds inside a sack..
The old man asked them to carefully take the birds out of the sack, and saw how beautiful they were...
Now, what shall we do? Asked the young man.
Shall we kill them and drink their blood? Or maybe shall we cook them and eat their flesh? Asked the young girl.
No, said the wise man. Get these birds and tie their legs together, using these leather strings. When they are tied up, let them free, so that they can fly...
The warrior and the girl did as he said, and let the birds free...
The hawk and the eagle tried to start flying, but they could only hop around the place.
Minutes later, distressed because they could not fly, the birds started to push each other around, hurting each other with their beaks.
The wise man said:
Never forget what you are watching here... This is my advice. You are like the hawk and the eagle... If you are tied up together, even if for love ... If you are tied up into each other, you will shove each other around, and sooner or later, you will start hurting each other.
If you wish your love to last, fly together...but never tied up.

Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness..
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Live together, but let there be spaces in your togetherness...
Love one another but make not a bond of love...
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, even as the strings of a lute are alone, though they quiver with the same music...
And stand together, yet not too near together for the pillars of the temple stand apart, and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow...
You shall be together then, when the white wings of death scatter your days.
