ícone The limit of each one

The young boy looked at the rain drops which softly hit the window.

Although his eyes where fixed on it, his mother could see that his thoughts were really far away.

She got next to him, and, tenderly touching his hair, she softly asked:

“Any  problems, my son?”

The boy got closer to the mother and whispered:

“Nothing, mum.”

Although being the answer a negative one, his attitude showed that something was not well.

The mother knew her son far too well.

She knew something was bothering him.

She embraced him with tenderness and waited for him to speak.

The fact that she was available and attentive was a motivation for him to open himself up.

After a short while, he became uneasy with the embrace and told the mother, staring at the floor:

“I do not want to take part of the play this year.”

The mother took his hand,  sat down and put the little one on her lap.

“Why not, my son?”

Sulky, he buried his face in the mother’s shoulder, avoiding answering.

“Don’t you think it is going to be nice?”- the mother insisted.

Nodding his head shyly, he answered:

“I think so, but one of my colleagues said I will never be able to memorize all the lines.”

The mother held him tightly and said with tenderness:

“What about you, my son?

Do you agree with him?

Do you believe you will not be able to memorize the lines?”

Her voice was calm.

The boy raised his eyes and met his mother’s eyes; she looked at him with tenderness.

“You know, through out your life, a lot of people will try to convince you about what you are able to do, or you are not able to do.

They will try to make you believe they know more about you than yourself. They will say a lot of nice things, and others not so nice.

Most of the times, these people might be doing that because they are envious, jealous, or just because they are ignorant.

There is no way they will be able to know everything, neither they will know everybody so well.

A lot of them say things just for the sake of it, or maybe to hurt others.

The important thing, my son, is that you must have the capacity of not allowing these words to have any influence on you.

If they are right or not, only you will be able to say.

Only you can establish your limit.

You, and only you, can tell where your work and effort might take you.”

The eyes of the boy were full of tears; he felt touched by the trusting words his mother had passed on to him.

He gently kissed his mother’s face and, smiling, thanked her for the message that would be engraved in his heart forever.

The media points out the trends of the moment.

Ephemeral idols dictate jargons and fashions.

Suddenly, everybody consider themselves authorized to judge others and to point out their destiny.

However, only the ones who wish to follow this mad wave have to do it.

Only the ones who can not be bothered to think for themselves, to reflect and to keep their convictions might be dragged by this nonsense.

Which is not the case of the ones who know themselves well and draw their own path.

These last ones establish their own limits and follow their dreams with stamina and determination.

Their fragilities will be reason for more resolution and commitment, but will never be the impeditive factor imposed by strangers.

Each one is responsible for their own mistakes and achievements.

There is where the merit of each human being lies.
