ícone Somebody to love

The world is full of  complaints from people who consider themselves lonely. Who desire to be loved. Who are always searching for someone to love them, to understand them.

The world is also full of privations. Affective privations, material privations.

Possibly watching the scenery from where she lived, Mother Teresa of Calcutta wrote what follows:

“Lord, the day I feel hungry, show me someone who needs food. The day I feel thirsty, show me someone who needs water. The day I feel cold, show me someone in need of heat.

The day I feel upset, show me someone who needs a cuddle. When my cross seems to be too heavy, let me share someone else’s cross.

The day I think myself poor, put next to me someone in need. When I do not have time, show me someone who needs some of my time. When I suffer a humiliation, give me the opportunity to praise someone.

When I feel discouraged, show me someone in need of courage.

The day I feel I need someone else’s comprehension, show me someone who needs mine. The day I feel I want to be taken care of, show me someone that needs my attention.

When I think about myself, turn my attention to somebody else.

Make me dignified, Lord, to serve our brothers who live and die poor and hungry in today’s world.

Give them, through our hands, the everyday bread, thanks to our compassive love, give them peace and happiness.”

Mother Teresa truly conjugated the verb to love. Her worries were first about the others.

Everybody was a representation of Christ for her. In each sick, poorly nourished and abandoned body, she saw Jesus crucified in a new cross.

She loved in such a way that her work was all over the world, embracing people from all races and religious beliefs.

Honoured with a Noble Peace Prize, she kept being humble, always serving her brothers. Everything she worried about were the poor she looked after. They were all over the world.

She loved without borders and without limits. She truly served Jesus. No one ever heard a word of complaint, of bitterness, solitude, tiredness or heart lost from her.

Christ needs souls that are decided and determined, who do not measure obstacles. Souls, which choose the comforting and luminous work, where one can feel truly useful.

Souls who do not expect anything from the people who they assist apart form their happiness, under Jesus’ light.

Souls who desire only to love intensely, with no expectations of gratitude.

Souls who understand what Francis of Assisi meant: It is better to love than it is to be loved.
