ícone Men of God

When we hear lectures of high content, we usually think that those men and women who so express their moral knowledge, are special people.

Because they are people with a lot of cultural baggage, we imagine them reading for hours and hours, daily, in cabinets or special rooms, without noises that may disturb them.

We consider that their lives are a continuous meditation around the so-called evangelicals, bellies of prayers and hymns of praise to the Lord of life.

We imagine that, in their homes, they only listen to classical music. Maybe Bach compositions since the morning hours, so that, according to the great composer, in devotion to music going on, God is always near with His generous presence.

We imagine that they are people who would never raise the tone of voice, who do  not run to not arrive late for appointments, do not rush, do not gasp, keeping the constant link with the Divinity, as if they were in a bubble that protected them from everything.

We forget that they are men and women who live in the world. They are professionals, with their working hours. They are fathers and mothers with all the concerns about the education of their children and the maintenance of home.

They are people who face the traffic of the populous cities, the long waits at airports. Also lines in supermarkets, fairs and public organs.

We remember the Sadhu, Indian mystic, Sundar Singh, who lived between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Since he wore the saffron robe and, bare feet, had initiated the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus, around India, China, Japan, Tibet and, finally, reached the West, he was regarded as someone special.

Once, in Copenhagen, a lady of high nobility asked him to bless her. He said his hands were not worthy of realizing that. Only the hands of Christ bless.

In another shot, staying at the home of an old friend, he was left, for a few minutes in the living room, in the company of the two little children, twins of five years old.

Upon returning to the room, the host found the visitor with his hands on the floor, with the two kids on his back. The three were laughing out loud.

And everyone knew that Sundar Singh was given to meditation, having, in his later years, daily ecstasies. However, there he was, serving as steed for the boys.

Men who devote themselves to good, to sowing in the hearts, when balanced, give samples, every day,  that living the Christian way is to live with people, to support them, it is to demonstrate, with attitudes, what is to be at peace with yourself.

They are people who take their work very seriously, professional and doctrinal. But they are not remote from reality.

They read newspapers, watch television, go to the movies, get information about what occurs in this global village that we live in.

They know how to laugh, tell interesting stories, be kind, among the professional colleagues, clients and friends.

They are not fanatics. They know that everything has its time, as the biblical book instructs: Everything has its determined time, and there is a time for every purposes under heaven.

Let us think about this and seek to follow the examples of work, dignity and honesty.

The true server of good manifests in his actions and at all times.
