ícone Divine Shepherd

One of the most famous psalms, declaimed and sung all over the world, by religious people or not, we believe it must be the one which number is twenty-three, whose authorship is attributed to David.

David was born a shepherd and was anointed king by the prophet Samuel, after a revelation he had received in a dream which was, according to him, given by Yaweh himself, the protective Spirit of the Israeli nation.

Young, David kept his father's flock. He was accustomed, therefore, as he himself narrates, to defend himself and the sheep from the jaws of lions and bears.

Also to contemplate, for hours, the landscape that extended, between valleys and mountains, the blue sky.  He was an artist. Famous is the performance he thrived the Jewish king Saul with his harp.

He proved to be equally eminent poet and singer, whereas the psalms were sacred hymns by means of which the people of Israel used to praise the Most High one, implore His mercy, remember and thank the blessings received.

The Hebrews proclaimed these corners of hymns, sung to the sound of an instrument. And so David sang:

The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside quiet waters.

He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness, for His name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, You have anointed my head with oil, my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and loving-kindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

David captured very well the role that would have the exalted Spirit that would come to us, centuries after.

Jesus came to the men, in order to live with them and teach them the practice of love.

Love came to the beloved. He called the Apostles His friends, extolling the qualities of a friend who gives its own life for his friend.

But his most sweet chant was captured by the Apostle John, who has translated in his Gospel:  I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

A hired man, who is not a shepherd and whose sheep are not his own, sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away.

But, I am the good shepherd. I know my own sheep and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know my Father.

So I sacrifice my life for the sheep. I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also.

They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd.

Jesus is the Divine Shepherd. All of us, who are in this planet, are under his care.

No matter if we believe or not. He is the one who watches over us. He pours His love on the world.

And, although we can, in quick comment, imagine thatthe chaos and confusion reign on Earth, He presides over everything, attentive.

Let us not forget this: the Shepherd is at the helm.
