Since the day you were born, I created, inside of me, the illusion that I could walk for you.

I imagined I would put your feet on mine and I take you through the path I judged more calm and safe.

This way, you would never hurt your feet by stepping on thorns or shards of glass and you would never get tired of the walk. You would not even need to decide which path to take. This would be eternally my responsibility.

And it worked like that for a while. I walked by you and for you.

Then, the time came and warned suddenly that this delicious task would no more be part of my days.

Your feet have grown and I could no longer balance them on top of my feet and, when I less expected, they slipped and reached the ground.

Today I am obliged to see your feet pinch ways in which mine would never lead them and I still try to stop them, repeatedly, but I can only succeed, very rare times.

Now it is only permitted that I run with my feet next to yours and, in certain moments, your steps are so large I can barely follow.

Currently I watch your stumbling always ready to lift you from your fall.

Sometimes, you raise your hands searching for help.

Other times, even when you are stretched to the ground and injured, you insist on yanking alone to prove me that you are able to get erect, after your falls and cure your wounds.

We keep living and I miss very badly that time when you needed me to lead you, because it was much easier to bear your weight on my feet than on my heart.

However, I can understand how wise life is.

I can finally see that, in some moment you would need to find your own way independent of me.

Just like me, you will probably have to do the same with some other feet on yours, the ones from your children.

It certainly is not an easy task. But I did it, you can do it too, because I have planted in your heart the best and most powerful additive so you can support so much weight: love.

The children are, without a doubt, a Divine loan.

With them we learn the greatest lesson of unconditional love. We become skillful in correcting our worst defects and multiply our best feelings.

If today they are by our side, let us do the best we can for them, because, surely, soon it will come the time when they will no longer be so close.

When little, all their happiness depend on parents and it is really painful the moment when we realize there will be the time we will not need to carry them not even lead their steps.

So let us prepare their way.

Through love, let us offer them the entire luggage they need so that they can move forward with strength and security.

Wish they have the certainty that, even while physically distant, we are always by their side.
