Who hasn't gotten overjoyed with the interpretations of Andrea Bocelli? His versatility is enchanting.

He both interprets magnificently religious pieces and songs of love, of very popular taste.

Anyhow, what calls attention is not only the voice, but the smile, always on his face.

And, however, he is blind. How can anyone, devoid of vision, live smiling?

We could think for those who have never had seen, it would be easy to accept and adapt.

Andrea was not blind when he was born though. He came to life in Lajatico, grew up at the family's ranch, around twenty five miles from Pisa, in Italy.

Early he proved to be the bearer of obvious problems of vision. Clinical studies diagnosed glaucoma.

As all the other boys he played, used to go to school, practiced sports.

At the age of twelve, when he was playing soccer, Andrea was hit on the head and definitely lost the vision.

Since his childhood, he had fallen in love by music and his mother used to say that the music was the only thing that would console him after the complete loss of vision.

When he was six years old he had started having piano classes, after that flute lessons, saxophone, trumpet, harp, guitar and drums.

When a child he played electronic piano at the church near his house, where he used to go on Sundays with his grandmother.

Also, at the age of twelve, he won the prize Margherita D'oro, with the song O sole mio. It was the first of many victories in music competitions.

Bocelli graduated in Law school, at the University of Pisa, and has even worked as a lawyer through one year.

The music, however, was his passion and he devoted himself to it full-time.

He never stopped his musical training and the success was coming. In 1994, he performed in the festival of San Remo and won with the song Il mare calmo della sera, which has taken him to his first Golden Record.

Later on, there were the performances in operas, shows, partnership with great names of international music.

If God has put a magical flute in his throat, which he knows exactly how to use, to spread joy around the world, he has never forgotten to use it for the good.

Bocelli sang in various charity events, through the whole world, such as at the wreck site of the World Trade Center, in October of 2001.

He participated on the project of the cd for the Fund for the Victims of the Tsunami of 2004 and performed in a big concert broadcast on television in Italy, in March of 2005, called Music for Asia.

He gave concerts for the Fundation of Research Harp, which he is the honorary chairman.

Not limited to singing, Andrea contributed to several written works. He has even written an autobiography, The music of silence, which has been published in 1999.

Andrea travels around the world and sings, with his soul, with his joy. He praises the Lord every day, making the world more musical.

He contributes to the elaboration of the better world we all desire. The world we can help to build, with what we have, with who we are.

Let us think about it.
