ícone Before afflictions

According to the Gospel, on the eve of His martyrdom Jesus went to Gethsemane with His disciples.

Accompanied by three of them, He turned away to pray.

He declared Himself sad and asked the disciples to watch with Him and prayed.

Absolutely everything that Jesus did during His journey on Earth is full of meanings.

He is the Model and Guide given by God to Humanity.

He was strong as no other man ever was by His virtues, but still under storms of earthly life.

Given the witness that was approaching, the Higher Man resorted to two measures.

First, He surrounded Himself with His dear friends and shared with them His troubles.

Second, He came into contact with the Divine through prayer.

In the world, man is always involved with aflictions.

In his fragility, he is tested all the time.

Unlike Jesus, Who is full of purity, goodness and wisdom, the common man is under afflictions and doubts.

He often wonders about which the best track he should take is.

He hesitates, feels weak and is afraid of failing the trials.

Even when convinced, he sometimes falters when putting his good resolutions into practice.

Essentially fragile, the human being struggles not only with occasional difficulties.

Every day he is subject to make small and unnecessary mistakes.

This is not about painting a bleak picture, but about being realistic.

Good is always possible and it invariably illuminates and pacifies.

Only sometimes the temptations of the world present themselves very enticing.

In this context, we may recall the wise example of Jesus.

In His greatness, He did not give up two sublime resources: prayer and friendship.

Prayer puts man in connection with the Divine.

It gives man healthy inspirations and strength.

The habit of prayer is an effective antidote to the insanities of the world.

But in this pursuit of purity, we should not forget our fellow companions.

The sincere friendships warm the heart and reduce the needs and weaknesses.

It is important to learn to how to share our difficulties and dreams with some people we trust.

This process of telling God and our trusted friends about our inner conflicts gives us self-knowledge.

If something seems too shameful to be shared with a dear friend, it is because it should never be put into practice.

So, before your daily aflictions, connect to God and your friends.

It is a valuable strategy to overcome your own difficulties and walk firmly towards the top.

Think about it.
