ícone The harmful habit

A habit is what we incorporate into our daily lives. It is our usual way of being. It is what we do by rote.

It is about attitudes that we assume and carry out, without realizing it.

Consider this: how many times has it happened to us that we get home and drop the keys anywhere?

The action is so mechanically done that, in needing the keys, some time later, we cannot remember where we dropped them.

We go out, we turn off the lights, we lock the door. After walking a few blocks, we wonder whether we did or did not have the house locked up.

And we must return home to be sure, so that we will not remain the rest of the day on the rack.

We do many other things automatically.

We have coffee, we water the plants, we feed the cat without thinking.

Alongside these issues, we have others not so healthy habits. And, because they are incorporated into our way of being, we do not realize how harmful they are.

It is commonly observed, before a lecture or conference, a great buzz in the room.

It is only natural, at a first moment, in getting together with friends, greetings, salutes, smiles. It becomes unpleasant when music is present, and we do not change our demeanor.

Someone plays a delicate melody at the piano, or strums a guitar, or sing, and we continue talking as if nothing was happening.

The impression one has is that we have come to listen to the lecture. And about everything else that takes place before it, we are not aware, we do not notice.

It is a bad habit, which even characterizes great rudeness on our part, since the artist who will perform at that time deserves, at least, that we remain quiet, to listen to his or her art.

And no less serious when, once the lecture we meant to hear is concluded, we immediately stand up and noisily leave.

We do not await the actual conclusion of the event for a final reminder that will be made, or an appreciation to the speaker, or a useful warning.

And the same is repeated in theaters when, once the movie ends, we get up and make our way out, forgetting that many enjoy seeing all the credits.

This is not allowed because, in getting up, we block their view of the screen.

This is the same attitude that allows us to observe misery roaming in the streets, without reaching us. We have got used to those scenes in such a way that we have become desensitized.

We have got used to see corruption prevail, so that we no longer want to do anything to defeat it.

Habits... The habit of watching lies growing in shape and volume and we make no move in order to clarify the truth, to defend the maligned.

The habit of receiving the blessing of rain, the sun's rays, the caresses of the wind, with no gratitude. As if the whole Universe owes us the favor to serve.

The habit of not listening to the one who tells us about his or her pain, his or her difficulty. The habit of thinking of nobody but oneself.

It is time to stop and think and seek to remake attitudes.

Let us reflect that the good in life is to live. And to live intensely it is necessary to feel everything one does, everything that comes to us.

It takes looking around, be present, act, thoughtfully and attentively take action.

Thus, let us change course.

Let us learn to observe the day, to look at people in the eye, to perceive what happens around us.

Let us build up habits of gentleness, of kindness and gratitude.

Let us live more consciously. Let us learn to take pleasure in small things like walking, running, eating, getting wet in the rain or bask in the sun.

Let us learn to look at the stars, to enchant ourselves at the moonlight night, to vibrate with the music, the perfume, the people.

Let us abandon harmful habits and become happier, since now.
