ícone The Hope

There are days when we have the impression that we have reached the end of the path. We look ahead and we see no more way out. There is no light at the end of the tunnel and there is also no possibility to go back.

It seems that all of our projects, our goals, have been taken a long away, and we are unable to achieve them.

It seems even that the autumn of existence has made our hopes dry up and the strong winter wind sweeps away all our cherished dreams.

Death comes and snatches the affections of our soul leaving our hearts torn.

We feel lost. We do not know which way to go. We were astonished.

We feel like a parched tree, with no leaves, no shine, no reason to live. It is hopelessness.

Suddenly, as with nature, spring changes the entire landscape. The dry trees are filled with green buds, and soon they are covered with leaves and flowers.

The grayish tone gives place to the green colors of a thousand shades. It is hope.

The dear ones, who preceded us on the return trip to the Spiritual Homeland, will one day be again close to our longing hearts, in a hug of caress and affection.

Everything in nature smiles again. The green grass is embroidered with flowers of varying hues, the butterflies dance in the air, the birds toast us with the harmonious symphonies. Everything is life.

Then, when the flame of hope rekindles within us, our broken dreams are replaced by other yearnings. Our goals change and enthusiasm invades our soul.

Jesus, the Sublime Galileo, spoke to us of hope in the Sermon of the Mount, with the soft singing of the beatitudes.

He exemplified it in His sayings and deeds. Anyway, every message from Him is one of hope.

If we are visited by any unpleasantness and despair takes us by surprise, let us seek out our Greater Friend, Jesus, through prayer.

Predisposing us through prayer, help will certainly come, as a soft balm penetrating the most intimate fibers of our being, giving us breath and tranquility.

If hopelessness approaches us, let us remind Heavenly Friend to tell us: My burden is light, my yoke is easy.

If His yoke is easy, why don´t we accept Him?

If His burden is light, why don´t we carry Him?

Let us consider that the rigor of winter may be the result of our lack of care, subjecting ourselves to the yoke of lies, excessive ambition, pessimism, endless complaints...

Or perhaps hopelessness results from our own folly, carrying the heavy burden of inferior pleasures, pride, selfishness, greed, vices of all kind, and so many other useless burdens that strain our shoulders and destroy our strength.

Thus, in any circumstance, let us let hope invade our souls, trusting God, who always gives us new opportunities to redo our paths, seeking our redemption.

Hope must be a constant in our lives.

Hope for better days; hope of higher accomplishments; hope of peace.

It is said that a monk who lived out of begging, without shelter, retreated to a cave for his night rest in a beautiful landscape bathed in moonlight.

He fell asleep, a bandit came and stole the cloak that he used as a coat.

The cold of dawn woke him and, realizing his misfortune, but fascinated by the moon´s light, approached the entrance of the cave and, being moved by what he saw, exclaimed:

I am glad the thief did not steal my moon!

And smiling, he began to meditate.

Despair, never!
