ícone Identical pain

Spring started to blossom in those days of March and April. According to the Jewish calendar, it was the month of Nisan. Although it was cold, nature seemed to ardently dress up in flower colors.

Everything was a promise of life, as if Yahweh wanted to toast humans with renewed presents.

Everything was the promise of happiness... except in Jerusalem.

The man who entered the city in a triumphal few days ago and was heartedly greeted by children, women, and people in general had been arrested.

After the arbitrary trial in the hands of Pilate, He spent the night in torture. Thirty-five lashes on the legs. Thirty-five lashes on his back.

His body was an open wound, crowned by thorns collected in the midden.

Raised in the cross of shame, the man was dying. By His feet, with her heart in tatters, His mother agonized.

Mary looked at her son's scratched body and wondered why men treated so badly the One who had done them so well...

She had sunken eyes of a sleepless night, her face reflecting the pain that hurt her soul.

Her son was crucified between two malefactors. Then she saw a woman by the foot of one side of the crosses.

She also wept and mourned.

Is he your son? She asked.

Yes, the other said. He is suffering a lot and is dying.

And because Jesus had responded to the thief named Dimas that, later that day, he'd be in heaven, Mary reassured the weeping woman.

Dear, if my son says your son will be with Him in heaven, believe it. My son is the Son of God Almighty.

That voice, thought the mother of Dimas, she knew. Where from? Wherever had she heard that such sweet tone?

And her memory went back over time to Nazareth. She had gone to the fountain to get water.

And when she came close, he heard comments from some women. She kept it at a distance, half hidden.

Yes, one said. Tamar's son is a thief. John stole a sling.

Are you sure? Asked the other woman.

And the first reaffirmed the story, saying that John and his friend had assured her the stealing was done by Dimas.

How can Tamar not realize the evil of her child?

Then a sweet voice, argued:

I cannot believe that there is so much evil in the son of Tamar. I think it must be simply a joke among the boys.

Only one single voice defended her son. Her poor son.

Tamar recalls she had gone home and asked her son about the accusation.

He assured her that it was not true. Now a grown man, he came to Jerusalem.

He had promised his fiancée and his mother that he would buy a house to start a new life. He had important businesses which would yield much money.

And in the cruelest form, the mother, who always had regarded her son as an honest and hardworking man, discovered him regarded as a robber and condemned to death.

But the sweet voice that defended her son one day, and tried to quell the gossip was there.

And her Son, the Messiah, promised to take care of her son in the afterlife.

Tamar wiped her aching tears, approached Mary and hugged her in gratitude.

And both they stayed there, the two mothers. One was the mother of the most perfect Being that the Earth had ever known.

The other, the unfortunate mother of a mistaken man.

But the pain, the pain in their hearts was the same: the pain of a mother seeing her beloved son dying in agony.

Think about it.
