ícone For what reason do we educate our children?

Without doubt, we are going through very competitive days.

The society, the labour market, and our personal needs are all increased and more complex. Computing, which didn't exist a few years ago, now connect people or isolate those who do not use it adequately.

In the name of competition, we take countless foreign language courses, Bachelors or Post-Graduation degrees.

Consequently, what yesterday seemed to be enough to educate our children nowadays seems little...

In the anxiety for giving our children enough tools to deal with the voracious competitiveness, we search for everything and everyone that can help them become the best, the first on his field. Ultimately, we want our children to learn how to compete.

In order to achieve this, we do not spare efforts. We enrol them into countless courses, sport practices, private tutoring... We buy them all available tools they'll need for working, for being competitive.

But after all, have you ever stopped to think about the reason why we educate our children? What tools and which fights do you wish him to be ready to deal with?

If one asks us what the world needs, what is lacking in our society, we would promptly enumerate the virtues that our soul needs: honesty, respect to each other, compassion, solidarity...

After all, who would not want a world full of these virtues?

Well, this is the world we all wish for. And this is certainly the world we wish for our children. But are they prepared to live in such place?

Do our children have in their souls elements that would enable them to live in a world of tolerance, compassion, and solidarity? How prepared are their Spirits to live in such place?

Do you believe that in the education of our children there's place for lessons of tolerance?

Children and youngsters who do not experience the lesson of dealing with differences will never be able to know how to tolerate. They need to see we are all different on the outside, but inside we are all sons of the same Father.

What about compassion? Have we dealt with this subject in the school of our hearts, which our children also attend here on Earth?

No children or youngster will ever know how their souls get lighter when helping to diminish the pain or difficulties of another human being if they are not given the opportunity to do so.

Solidarity. Have we ever discussed this at home? In a world where unfairness flourish here and there, have we stopped to teach our beloved ones the need for stretching out our hands to diminish misery, either physically or  soul-related?

Let's not forget the first school of life is home. This is where the lessons we want for the world should be learned.

There is no value in wishing for a world with no violence, if we do not teach tenderness and gentleness to our children.

And in days as challenging as these we're living, people lose their references of values, where the lessons of the soul have been lost because of the urge to educate the mind, only thinking about being competitive. It is at home where we need to cultivate the noble values, which make our souls strong to deal with the difficulties of life.

It's not about the concern for learning to be competitive, but for understanding that being collaborative is the lesson life brings us as greatest teaching.

After all, the major opportunity life offers us while we're here is mainly learning how to conjugate on our daily lives one single verb: to love.
