ícone In the vessel of the heart

When dark clouds of tormenting thoughts cover the horizon of your hopes and the vessel that guides your heart becomes agitated and trembles above the waves...

When daily obligations, difficulties, problems or unpleasant surprises make you say :“What a day!”

Remember the story I’m about to tell you:

The day was coming to an end and the crowd was still at the shore.

Since dawn, Jesus had answered countless pleas from the ones that followed him. Hands and tears touched his face and his tunic - once clean and bright - but now all covered in sorrow.

Finally, he got to the margin of the lake, getting over the sinner’s pain and sorrow.

Those who saw Jesus leaving a track of stars behind him as he walked, wondered: "Who could be that man to whom even pain obeys?”

The sky was getting dark when Peter’s boat collected such a precious cargo.

In Jesus’ face, tiredness was never so clear as it was on that night. Seating on a leather cushion, his head fell aside, as a sunflower turned towards the sun at the end of the day.

He gave a deep sigh before falling asleep. The fisherman did not dare to disturb his rest, rowing with care and being helped by a sweet breeze that blew silently.

Lake Gennesaret, looked like a huge silver mirror under the moonlight, serene and calm.

Suddenly, when they were about to reach the other side of the lake, something happened.

The weather changed drastically, the clouds became heavy and dark, the lake’s water became turbid, and the wind started to blow.

For that small vessel, fighting the storm was like fighting against an invincible Titan. Peter had to use his wisdom and strength at the paddles, shouting orders that got lost amongst lightning and thunders.

The frightened disciples woke Jesus up, who was still asleep.

“Master!” claimed the despaired voices, “We will perish!”

Jesus woke up and stood up straight, even though the vessel was about to sink. The majestic silhouette seemed to be involved in a mysterious light, when raising his arms and commanding the storm: “Be silent!” And looking at his friends: “Be calm! Men, where’s your faith?”

The wind quieted down and the waves disappeared, calmed by a mysterious imperative.

The disciples looked at each other with a mixture of surprise and relief.

They went back to their places, felling rather ashamed. The vessel kept going on its own rhythm and the men asked themselves: “Who is that man, who even the wind obeys?”

When dark clouds of tormenting thoughts cover the horizon of your hopes and the vessel that guides your heart becomes agitated and trembles above the waves...

Remember:

Wake Christ’s image that lives in your heart and stay calm!
