ícone Honour can also be taught

It became common nowadays to hear people complaining about their rights.

It might be over a doctor who leaves patients hoping to be attended in a waiting room for far too long, with no explanations whatsoever.

It might be over a lawyer who accepts a cause and later on does not take the right procedures, leaving the client in a difficult situation.

It can be over an accountant who has a commitment with a company of having all documents expected by law in order, and some months later, the company is taken to court for irregularities they were unaware of .

It could be over an engineer who takes responsibility on a construction, and when it starts to fall apart, does not admit having made a mistake.

Over the politician that promises all kinds of things, and after winning elections, ignores the words sworn to his voters.

All these cases and many others became very common nowadays.

It is understandable that people who are involved in these situations show their indignation and reclaim their rights before the law.

However, it is worth it having a little reflection about the lack of honour of some citizens.

We must admit they were all children one day, and, in theory, we can say that they did not get their first lessons of honour as it should have been.

When kids are small, we sometimes do not give the necessary attention to their bad tendencies, or even worse, we encourage them with our own example.

If our kid does not respect the timetable we establish, we often do not ask it for an explanation.

If it promises something and does not fulfil it, we do not talk about the importance of a word of honour. Therefore, the promise is broken, and we do nothing to avoid it.

Actually, some parents are indeed examples of dishonour. They promise, but do not honour their own words. They say they will do it, but then they do not do it. They speak, but their words do not have the weight they should have.

It is important that we think about the causes before we complain about the effects.

It is essential that we give our children the idea of honour.

Teach our boys that other boys' sisters should be respected as much as their own sisters.

A word should be always honoured by the one who pledges it.

Teach respect to our fellow brothers, not making them wait for hours and do not attend them as we were doing them a big favour.

Teach them to do to others what we would want others to do for us, as Jesus taught us.

There is no effect without a cause. Every negative effect must have a negative cause too.

That is why, before complaining about the effects, we should think about our own attitudes towards the causes. Directly or indirectly, we might be contributing to it.

Let us think about it!
