ícone Setting up goals

If you do not know where you want to go, how can you get there?

This is an obvious question. That is why, when planning our vacation, we choose a place to go because, depending on where we go we select the type of transportation, book the hotel, pack the right clothes.

When we go away on a holiday we make much the same preparations. Are we going to the countryside, to the shore, to a friend's house?

That is because, based on that choice we can set up out schedule, invite this or that person to go with us, make previous contacts.

In a very paradoxical manner, however, when talking about our existential objectives, few people have well defined goals.

This is one of the causes of depression nowadays.

The person says he or she just wants to have a normal life. But they do not establish what this normal life would be, what they really want for themselves.

What would they like to do?

Professionally, what do they intend to do? Where would they like to work, with whom, what courses do they still intend to take, what refresher courses do they seek?

Personally, do they think about getting married, having children, living in a house or in an apartment, at the countryside or in the city, in this country or abroad?

Culturally, do they wish to improve themselves in the study of arts, of another language, arts and crafts?

When the questions arise, the answers are usually evasive: I don't know, anything, whatever happens is fine by me.

Some people refuse to idealize, to dream. They say it is because they do not want to be disappointed.

Others say that they are incapable of dreaming their own dreams. They think they can be fulfilled through other people's dreams or that other people can make them happy.

Now here is the question: if there is no goal to reach, if there is no objective to be achieved, how can we find the courage and the energy to live each day to the fullest?

Where would the joy of the achievement be? Where would the smile of victory be? Where would the satisfaction to call ourselves winners be?

To live without goals is to simply obey to automatism.

It is a psychological slumber that takes the creature to states of indifference, discouragement, dissatisfaction, until it reaches total contempt for life.

To be healthy it is mandatory to have a personal project defining exactly what one desires.

To reach this goal or not is another question altogether. But what matters is the effort, the continuous struggle.

Let us think about it and do an evaluation of our goals, our dreams.

If we have so far been living just for the sake of it, working, studying, just because it is the context in which we live, let us take a break.

Let us rethink our lives. Let us chose at least one goal to achieve.

And do not let yourself be intimidated by the years that have passed or by the many days already lived.

It is always time to learn and to be happy.

Think about it!
