ícone Trial and learning

When pain knocks on the door and fills our lives with shadows, we usually despair and cry.

Disheartened, we look around and feel jealous of the happy people who populate this world: the ones who seem to have no worries, the ones who are perfectly healthy or have the perfect families.

In these times of trial, we generally lament and cry. We rarely take advantage of these moments to meditate and learn something from it.

For many times, while we are on Earth, the worries about material life make us blind.

We get so concerned about what we are going to eat and drink that we forget we have God, a caring Father who looks after all of us.

You must believe: this good and loving Father overlooks no one, the One that makes the sun shine for the good and the evil, the One that makes the rain fall over the just and the unfair ones.

We often ask: Why did this happen to me? However, the question should be different: For what reason did this happen to me?

Indeed, each and every experience – happy ones or not – brings an important lesson. These moments enrich our souls.

God does not play with our lives. If He allows some things to happen to us, it is because there is a useful and important reason for it.

Have a moment of retrospection: observe the difficult moments of your life.

Each one of them has brought you something new, a special learning. Each tear has brought knowledge, experience, a new look over your life.

Sickness, for example, teaches us to valorise health, to take better care of our bodies. Poverty reveals the importance of work and personal efforts. A difficult family offers us the lesson of tolerance.

Thus, privations teach us to be more sensitive before our brothers’ pain. These lessons are then interiorized: we will keep them forever.

In reality, difficulties are advertences which life presents us, warnings about our attitudes before our fellow brothers.

If something bad happen to us, it is worth to wander: What can I learn from that? How can I improve the way I behave after that episode?

However, we must pay attention: that does not mean we should cultivate pain. Far from it! To well suffer does not mean to encourage suffering, to be conformist or to worse the pain we feel.

To well suffer means to face the difficulties with faith and courage, to feed hope facing situations with serenity.

Therefore, look for solutions, fight for your happiness. But do all that with tranquillity.

When the storms of life fall over your head, do not give yourself in to destructive revolt. Be silent, pray and try to find the hidden learning which the situation brings.

Believe: it does not matter how bitter the situation might be, the consequences of this learning will never be lost, and it might turn us into more generous and wiser people.

Therefore, every time tears visit your face, raise your eyes to the sky and be thankful.

In your prayers, ask God for the necessary strength to overcome this difficult moment and the inspiration to find solutions.

And God, Who loves us indeed, will never let you down, considering the measure of your spiritual necessities.

When this moment of difficulty is over, you will feel much better if you do not have to remember that you gave yourself in to despair, that you screamed and struggled.

Usually, the solution is not far away. However, if we are deeply disturbed by pain and anguish, it will be more difficult to solve the problem. With calm and peace of mind, we soon will be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

        Think about it.
